Betty Crocker's Heart Healthy Cookbook shares a recipe! Start your day with the goodness of oatmeal and apples baked into a delightful breakfast!
cups old-fashioned oats
cup packed brown sugar
teaspoon ground cinnamon
cups fat-free (skim) milk
medium apples or pears, chopped (2 cups)
cup chopped walnuts
Additional fat-free (skim) milk, if desired
Heat oven to 350°F. Mix oats, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and 4 cups milk and the apples in 2-quart casserole.
Bake uncovered 40 to 45 minutes or until most liquid is absorbed. Sprinkle walnuts over top. Serve with additional milk.
One serving of this oatmeal provides many nutrients: both soluble and insoluble fiber, iron, calcium, folic acid and that good-for-you fat, Omega-3, from the walnuts! Keep leftovers on hand and reheat for another day.
