Four ingredients and two steps is all you need to make this applesauce – ready in 20 minutes.

Ingredients

4
medium cooking apples (1 1/3 lb), peeled, cut into fourths and cored
1/2
cup water
1/4
cup packed brown sugar or 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4
teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8
teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

  • 1 In 2-quart saucepan, heat apples and water to boiling over medium heat, stirring occasionally; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up apples, until tender.
  • 2 Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling. Boil and stir 1 minute. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Store covered in refrigerator.

Expert Tips

Decrease water to 1/4 cup. In 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker, mix all ingredients. Cover and cook on High heat setting 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours or until apples are tender; stir.
