| 1 | package (3 ounces) cream cheese, sliced |
| 2 | tablespoons sugar, if desired |

| A sandwich press is a long-handled, metal, clam-shell-type holder that can be used over a campfire or grill. There is a small electric appliance also called a “sandwich maker” or “sandwich press” that can do the same task right in your kitchen. |
|
| Use strawberry jam or grape jelly instead of the cherry pie filling. |
|
| When backpacking, pack firm rather than soft white bread in a rigid plastic container to prevent squishing. |
