"Really good cake, looks beautiful especially if you make it with other colors along with this cake such as a layer of purple and a layer of green which I did for a relatives birthday. The problem with playing with all these cake colors is the typical changing of the tongue and teeth going in which really isn't a big deal, but....warn people before they eat it of...shocking color effects."

"Thank you My_Best_Girl for that info. I agree, credit should be given where credit is due. Even if Betty Crocker cooks did change the recipe a little bit to make it their own...like so many of us do when we don't have all the ingredients called for or we're looking to cut calories or add more of something to give it a kick. I really do hope she does get the credit she and her dad deserve. I did go check out that link you posted and truly liked it, thanks."

"Yeah witkom, the fruit replaces the water that the boxed cake mixes call for. I had thought about going without the fruit myself, because I'm not big on fruit flavored cake or ice cream, but my husband encouraged me to give it a try first before nixing it, and I have to say I'm glad I listened. Yes I can still taste the fruit flavors but it's not as strong as I expected them to be. Maybe next time I'll go without the fruit just to see what it'll taste like, but I have a feeling it'll have a 1 tone taste. If you go without the fruit, you'll have to let me know how it came out."

"tina0311, I've never used a disposable round cake pan, are they ridged like a pie pan? I understand storage space, or lack there of very well. I would use the 9" you have and buy an extra box of mix just to be safe in case you need to top off the pans a bit more in each of the colors. But remember to just slightly increase the fruit, water and oil, so it doesn't get pastey. I didn't fully follow all the directions as I did state, I should've also added that I didn't use B.C. as my mix and frosting but rather Pilsb. because it was the first thing I grabbed thinking it wouldn't make a difference. I also mixed up the amounts of cake mix and frosting...lol...instead of 2 boxes of mix and 3 frosting I got 3 boxes of mix and 2 frosting. I'm glad I did this because I needed a little extra mix out of the 3rd box to make up the difference when measuring out the mix for the blue and white layers. Plus the frosting is also the same brand and the one I always use because it's not as sweet. It's called whipped fluffy white, tastes like a marshmallow frosting but not as sweet as most frostings. Oh and as for the extra cake mix if you do go that route, make it up like any other cake mix, just remember you'll have less mix so go a little less on your equations and toss in the leftover blueberries, tastes like fluffy blueberry muffins and those you can toss in the freezer for later, which is what I did. I hope this helps and isn't confusing. Good luck."

This cake came out a hit with everyone I shared it with! The only thing I did differently was add a little water in the blue cake because the batter seemed a little pastey when with the pureed blueberries added and I filled my 2 cup measuring cup to the rim with strawberries, which then when pureed it made a little over the amount stated. But I found the cake needed this otherwise it would be heavier. As for the left over cuts of discarded cake, I put it all into a gallon ziplock bag and put it into the freezer for a later use. tina0311 if you use a 9" pan, your layers will be a little thinner when cutting or if you're thinking of using those pans only instead of cutting it could take a little longer depending on how many of those pans you have. As for the food paste, I found mine in the wedding/cake decorating section aisle at Wal-Mart over in crafts. I know a lot of Wal-Mart's are different, but that's where I looked first and got lucky. As for the sprinkles, I had to by a mixed sprinkle that had tiny white stars in them since I couldn't find any other stars except the colored one at Wal-Mart. My kids and I sorted through the sprinkles, pulling out the stars and putting them off to the side. They don't show up as brighty as the picture, but never the less if you look at the blue section carefully you see the stars trying to shine. :)
