Slow Cooker Bourbon Chicken
"This recipe somehow fell flat. Not sure what could be done to make it taste better... it was just greatly lacking the flavor that I expected it to have after smelling the wonderful aroma it created while it was cooking. Nobody in my family particularly cared for it. It wasn't horrible, there just wasn't anything memorable about it. Definitely not worth wasting 1/2 cup of bourbon on or the 5-6 hours cooking time so unfortunately it won't be a keeper."

Chicken and Orzo Supper
"Great meal! These are the tweaks I made to make the recipe to my family's liking: I added some Italian seasoning while sauteing the chicken, it helped to give it a little more flavor. I also added a small onion with a few extra cloves of garlic to the chicken/garlic as well. One other addition I made was putting matchstick carrots in with the zucchini and tomatoes. Do to lactose-intolerance in the family, I left out the Parmesan cheese, and it really wasn't missed although I think it would taste wonderful with it as well. The family loved it and it is a keeper! Beef Burgundy
"What a simple yet delicious recipe!!! I pretty much followed the recipe but I did double the sauce (2 cans of soup and 1/2 cup of wine) as I had increased the amount of meat some to feed more people. My family thought I slaved away for hours to make such savory meal. This is definitely a keeper and is a great one to have on hand when you need to put something together for unexpected guests that you want to impress!"

Ground Beef Risotto
"My family loves this recipe. I modify it a little bit. I usually add twice as many carrots as recipe states and I always add other veggies in as well (zucchini, asparagus, broccoli, peas). I also serve the Parmesan cheese on the side for those who want we have milk intolerance in family. It is good with it, it is also good without it, especially with extra veggies to add flavor. A nice change for serving hamburger!"

Southwest Chicken Skillet
"This was a very simple recipe that tasted great! I used fresh veggies rather than frozen, substituted celery for onion, omitted mushrooms (my kids don't like them) and since fresh corn is in season, I cut up an ear of that and added it in (ended up being about a cup of corn). I also sauteed the chicken in some fresh garlic and fresh celery leaf which gave it a very yummy flavor. Like others, I opted for chips instead of the tortilla. Also, due to milk allergies, I didn't use cheese but it still was very flavorful. Definitely a keeper!"

I doubled the recipe and added pasta as another reviewer suggested. My family loved this tasty twist on chili and I loved the quick and easy meal! Definitely a keeper!

Easy Sweet-and-Sour Pork
Rating:
Wonderful recipe! I substituted a frozen stir-fry veggie mix (pea pods, orange/yellow carrot strips, and water chestnuts) as we deal w/ stomach issues in our family, I also added another can of water chestnuts. The bottled sweet and sour sauce I bought seemed a little too spicy for my kids, so I used half of it and watered it down which made it just right. It got rave reviews from all! No leftovers! I love the simplicity of Betty's recipes that allow for alterations/additions/substitutions. They can make a great springboard for your own personal creations!
