Dark Chocolate Caramel Brownies
I really think the 'creators' of this recipe or putting the recipe on the web made a mistake with the amount of butter/margarine needed. I used 3/4cup like listed, but the batter was hardly able to be 'pressed' into the pan or 'sprinkled' on top of the caramel. It ended up being a thin 'dough' that I had to spoon into the pan, then spray my hands to be able to 'press' in the pan. Then for sprinkling, I actually dropped spoonfuls around the pan -- kind of like dumplings. I don't think I would melt the caramel and milk. I would probably just cut up the caramels and layer with the chocolate chips, and then pour the other 1/2 of the dough over it. It tasted fine, more like a dark chocolate and caramel fudge than a brownie. So in the next try, I would decrease butter to 1/2cup, use 1/3 cup regular milk, maybe add an egg, and layer the caramel chunks with the chocolate chips...or heck just mix them in with the batter.
