"One way to make this even better than it is: Mix 1/3 Cup sugar with the zest of 1 lemon. Toss the almond slices with this mixture and set aside while you prepare the mix. Then add this on top and bake. It won't need the frosting."

"For those worried about waste, just use the bottoms of the cupcakes in a trifle. Tear or cut up the bottoms, layer in a trifle bowl with vanilla pudding that you've tinted one of the colors - or not, leave it cream colored. Add some fruit and whipped cream and you have a fun, colorful display and a yummy second dessert."
