I try diverse recipes, but always add or delete ingredients to my liking. It is sometimes difficult to share family favorites, which we make from memory. Somehow, we do it though.

"P.S. I made a mistake. Mea culpa... The recipe is right. You divede the flavors in half. There are two rings in each cake pan. You put chocolate, white, chocolate, then alternate. You take the rings out, carefully, before you bake the cake. This is not a new cake. It has been in existence for at least 60 years, if not longer. It is not new. "

"The cake is chocolate and white, with yellow icing, piped with white icing. The pansy on the top, seems to be a fresh flower. I have no idea why anyone would want to put purple coloring on this cake. It looks very pretty as is. I have two checkerboard cake pan sets; both a round and a square set. The only thing that I can see wrong with this recipe, is that it calls for making one half chocolate and one half white. You need to make it two thirds of one flavor (your choice) and one third the other. Then you alternate them, i.e., chocolate, white, chocolate, or white, chocolate, white. That is how you get the checkerboard appearance. Wilton probably still carries these pans. I hope that this helps."
