French Apple Dessert
"Absolute delight, this one. Both for the people who ate it, and for me who made it. I loved this one...really satisfying.Some changes if I may suggest: the amount of sugar in the filling may be lowered. I used 3/4 cup and not one cup as the recipe suggests and even that seemed like a lot. Yes maybe if one serves with whipped cream, then the sweetness gets toned down, but my family ate this with vanilla ice cream.Another modification: 1/2 cup nuts seemed less to me. I used pecans and the next time I am going happy with 3/4 cup - I know that takes the calorifc count through the roof, but then I just dropped the sugar, no? Also I wonder about dropping the 2 tablespoon margarine in the filling. The taste of cinnamon and nutmeg brought tears to my eyes...it is heavenly! How about doubling the topping and using half at the base before laying out the apples, then layer the apples, then the filling and then topping again? The topping got nice and crust and I am sure it will form similarly at th bottom too, which will be nice and crunchy...anyone who tries this, let me know. But this is a super recipe, easy to put together and ends with Mmmmmmm...!"
