"Our variation adds 1 tsp vanila extract to cheese mixture, and we take it from the oven without cooling, add the pie filling and walnuts, and stick it under the broiler for 4 - 5 minutes. (Watch it carefully). Then we serve it with or without vanila icecream"

"To Cooking Gumby: My son is now 51 and a grandpa. We've been eating this cake since he was little. The beauty of this recipe is that you can make it anyway you want. We like to marblize it with two tablespoons of jam or marmelade, or substitute a small ripe banana, mashed well, for 1/2 of the milk. Give it a chance and experiment."
