"no you don't want to .... those are not pie pumpkins! go to a farmer's stand and ask for pie pumpkins ... if they say it doesn't matter go elsewhere ... it really DOES matter. For enough pumpkin meat for a pie get 2 pie pumkins. chop into chunks. cut"

"at this time of year my kids always liked to help make applesauce ... you go to the orchard to pick them (or farm stand) ... cook them ... put throu the Foleys Food Mill ... pack in jars* and water bath ... then they give them to their teachers for xmas"

"I gave it a 4-spoon because it was a real hit with my daughter's college friend who ended up taking thirds. The recipe "as is" is bland but I added some hot Italian sausage I crumbled. That gave it a great kick. I served it with a salad and some fresh asparagus. In the summer I think I would probably serve cold cucumber slices marinated in an Italian dressing."

I gave it a 4-spoon because it was a real hit with my daughter's college friend who ended up taking thirds. The recipe "as is" is bland but I added some hot Italian sausage I crumbled. That gave it a great kick. I served it with a salad and some fresh asparagus. In the summer I think I would probably serve cold cucumber slices marinated in an Italian dressing.
