"Love sweet/salty, so I tried this. It's ok but I prefer my bacon dipped directly into syrup, like a chip into salsa. I definitely appreciate anyone who goes into their kitchen and says, "Hm-m-m, I wonder what this will taste like!". To tinydogpries and mommypie, so sorry y'all were having a bad day. Bless your hearts but y'all really didn't need to waste your time writing up a review of something you didn't bother to try. Take two jalapenos and go put your feet up for awhile; you'll feel better in the morning. "

"Nobody liked these. Pretty much a waste of some good ingredients. Also, the melted chocolate chip "frosting" breaks off and falls everywhere when you try to bite into the bar. Will not make these again."

"DO NOT bake the "cookie" base for 20 minutes!!! Cookies don't take 20 minutes to bake; then the base has to cook even more after the 'filling' goes on. Thought it didn't sound right when originally reading the recipe, but did it anyway because I've always trusted Betty. Still giving 5 spoons, though, because they tasted so darn good, even with the dry tough cookie bottom. Will make them again but will do it my way next time. :) "

I have been making this forever, and it's a never-fail smash hit every single time. The most requested filling is the dried apricot/red maraschino cherries, followed very closely by a kind of sweetened cream cheese/maraschino cherry mixture. For Christmas I shape it into either into the candy cane or a wreath, and decorate with red & green maraschino cherries. Other times of year I'll usually use a date/walnut filling, and either shape into a circle or just a "straight" coffee cakes.
