"I used the dry beans...after washing them the night before I soaked them in warm water overnight and it really cuts down the cooking time in the crock pot. Then I used smoked ham shanks and gives the beans a very tasty flavor. I put the ham shanks in after I let the beans and veggies cook for about a hour or two. Remove the shanks after they cook for another couple hours and remove them and remove the meat and put it back in with the beans and cook until beans are tender. Try this...you will like it. And a couple bay leaves adds to the flavor also."
