"Ok-- I'm going to tell you this and this will apply to EVERY cookie you make for the rest of your entire life: "Softened" butter does NOT mean melt it in the microwave. This is why you are all ending up with flat cookies. It should be a clue when your "dough" is runny. NO. Soften the butter by setting it out on the countertop beforehand, so it can reach room temperature, even better if your stovetop is gas and remains slightly warm, set it there for a bit on a plate. SOFTENED, not melted, folks. There is no shortcut. You're only short-changing yourself on the correct texture of the cookie. "
