Cherry Tomato-Brussels Sprouts Salad
"Got good reviews. Used sundried tomatoes in oil with herbs instead of cherry tomatoes. "

Penne with Tomato and Smoked Cheese
"Was a big hit. I too could only find smoked gouda at my local grocery store (try a specialty store if you want the smoke mozzarella?). Definitely give the tomatoes the time they need to reduce."

Nanaimo Cookie Bars
"So incredibly rich! Definitely want to cut these into smaller bars. But unbelievably good! And yeah, you're gonna need more milk/butter in the pudding mixture. "

Toasted Oatmeal Cookies
"Tasty! I didn't toast the oatmeal because I like soft cookies but I did toast the nuts and you'll be glad you did. I also used dark brown sugar and together with the toasted nuts you'll get one sweet, warm, flavorful cookie! Mine spread quite a lot so I have rather big, flat soft cookies. If you toast the oatmeal you'll probably have big, flat, crunchy cookies."

Olive Tapenade
"Definitely use a food processor (used a blender when I did it and, over the course of 3 batches, got textures ranging from muddy to very chunky). Also might want to cut back on the oil a bit but you can make that call as you blend it. The flavor is phenomenal and this got rave reviews from the olive fiends at my dinner party. Rosemary offers a delightful flavor kick."

Pumpkin Marmalade Bread
"Unlike the other reviewer, I actually have made this recipe. And it's really good! Reminds me of a very dense cake, and the glaze provides a slightly sticky sweetness that makes this spicy bread really pop. Made it for Thanksgiving, but it seems to fit the bill of "autumn desserts" quite well. Very nice if you love pumpkin but don't want another pumpkin pie."

Blueberry-Raspberry Phyllo Croustade
"I put these in individual puff pastry shells (the frozen kind) and did a peach-raspberry-blueberry combination. Only thing I can recommend is to use frozen raspberries because mine turned to mush and I think it would've been nicer if they had held their shape."

Apple Crostata with Caramel Sauce
"Absolutely fantastic! Used a combination of Red Delicious and Gala (the Gala were sweet, though the Reds didn't wow), and added cinnamon and cloves to the sugar mixture you toss the apples in. One note: I had way too many apples to fit into the crust. I was planning on making 2 and made 4 (whipping up more dough as I went along). But maybe that was just me. My brother suggested adding raisins to the apples, and I may try dried cranberries or raspberries later as I like tart flavors. Oh yeah, and remember that most refrigerated pie dough contains lard (an issue for me). Just something to keep in mind."

Pumpkin Cookies with Browned Butter Frosting
"Bit flat for my tastes...aside from the color these didn't scream 'pumpkin' to me. Definitely needed more spices, and I even added more cinnamon and some nutmeg. Maybe they'd be better with the frosting... I'm thinking next time I'll add chopped walnuts, crystallized ginger, or orange zest. If you're looking for a good pumpkin recipe, I'd recommend BC Pumpkin-Orange Bread made with orange marmalade. Made it a couple days ago and it's very tasty."

Winter Fruit Pasta Salad
"Incredibly delicious. Didn't use the mayo and it was still amazing. Ate most of it out of the bowl waiting for dinner to start. Used a mix of dried cranberries and blueberries."

Butternut Squash with Orange-Butter Glaze
"Delicious. Doubled the recipe for a large gathering and it went over really well, even with those who didn't like squash. Make sure you get ripe squash, though."

Roasted Vegetables with Basil (Crowd Size)
"Watch the green beans (or, for that matter, all of the veggies) because they will easily dry out. Who wants a dried-out green bean for dinner?"

Tortellini with Fresh Vegetables
"You want to make more? Double the recipe! Especially easy since pasta often comes in 1 lb boxes (I used penne instead of tortellini). Doubled it for a pasta potluck and it was really nice. Wish I'd used orange or yellow peppers."

Herbed Orzo Pilaf (Crowd Size)
"Definitely use fresh basil, but make it your own too! Roasted red peppers, juienne carrots or zucchini or bell pepper... Not the recipe with the most 'flavor punch' but you can tweak it a bit to make it so."

"So tasty and easy. Got it right the first time making it, and that was my first time making lasagna ever. Testament to how easy this recipe is. Doubled the recipe for a huge potluck & the compliments rolled in all night long!"

Chocolate Drop Cookies
"Unbelieveably soft and moist! Such a hit with everyone I gave them to (and the couple I sneaked for myself). Followed the betty crocker cookbook variation and instead used 1/2 cup cocoa (didn''t have bakers chocolate). Also threw in 3/4 c mini chocolate chips for some added chocolate kick. They spread quite a bit so definately give them the space they call for. Making them again as soon as I get more chocolate chips!"

Low-Fat Mocha Angel Cake
"Flavorful and light, great for my heart health-conscious dad. If the coffee sinks to the bottom (response to the post at the bottom) then my guess is your pan was too small (I had the same thing happen when I tried the cookies and cream angel food cake; all the oreos sank to the bottom and made a rubbery layer- -ick! One cake mix makes about 4 cakes of the 8 in loaf pan variety, 3 of the 8.5 in ones)."
