I have bought a lot of Betty Crocker Cake Mixes and I have always been happy but last week I bought the Butter yellow cake supermoist from the local piggly wiggly in Tuscaloosa, AL and the cake had an awful aftertaste and I ended up throwing it out. It tasted old or something. I dont know if it was the mix or the store but it was not up to Betty Crocker usual standards.

I used this to make rainbow cupcakes for my daughter's graduation party and they tasted great!!! The best product you can get for cupcakes.

When you're at the store, always get the "butter recipe" for this cake, and not just the regular yellow. They look EXACTLY the same on the front of the box and you have to read the label closely. The difference is that this cake uses butter instead of vegetable oil. I haven't tried the vegetable oil mix, and I don't see any reason to...making a cake with vegetable oil sounds disgusting to me. This cake is delicious though, easy to make, and tastes just like you made it from scratch. I like it with a chocolate frosting.

This cake was a little different from the start. When mixed up according to the package directions it was the consistency of a good buttercream icing. I don't know that I have ever seen a cake mix up so fluffy and whipped. The cook time seemed to be slightly off when I baked the cake but of course that could be due to a dozen different variables. What really disappointed me about this cake was not the flavor, which was very good, but rather the texture. It turned out very crumbly and kind of dry. I have a cake plate full of crumbs at the moment because the cake literally fell apart. A three inch chunk fell out the moment I attempted to ice the cake and it got worse as I served it. Thankfully, my children enjoyed the crumbs that ended up on their plates.
