I made a box of this junk last night...my husband who normally devours helper didn't even bother to come at this. A few bites and he was done. When I opened the bag of chips they smelled of chemicals/melted barbie doll hair? I like a few others, assumed it was the plastic bag, I dumped it into the mix and after putting into bowls and they were somewhat mixed in, i tasted the end result and to my delight the whole bowl tasted how I imagine a bowl full of melted plastic would taste. Yuck. I sure would like to know what it was I was eating..

This is a favorite in my house. I use all water and no milk. I throw away the cheese topping. I add extra rice and water. sometimes I add a little taco seasoning. It depends on how much extra rice I put in it. After it is done I pour into a baking dish and sprinkle with mexican cheese all over the top. Put in the oven till cheese is melted. We have Lightly Salted Tortilla Strips and sour cream with it. I do not put the chips in my dish.

Yuck! What's waste of good hamburger! When I opened the bag of chips, they smelled rancid or old or stale. And, they tested even worse. And, an hour later and I still have a foul taste in my mouth. I can't believe there are so many complaints about these chips. Why not just suggest topping the dish with your own chips. I wish I had. I am hoping I don't get sick. I plan on contacting the company directly, some how. And a coupon won't make me want to buy it again.

Your cheesy nacho hamburger helper was disgusting. Normally my one year old devours all types of hamburger helper but this one she fed to the dogs.

I use this product alot but always check and throw the chips away. They vary in taste and smell from just stale to foul and rancid. I substitute plain fritos. I like to use the juice from a large can of diced tomatoes for part of the water. I add the tomato solids, one can drained corn, and one can drained black beans. These extras are added the last 5 minutes of cooking.

Right now, this is my favorite HH product. It's just about the only thing we all agree on at home. We don't eat the chips, we just leave them off of it. I add some extra chili, garlic, and onion powders and it tastes pretty good.

Wow, I made a disgusting dinner last night. It was the Mexican Taco and inedible. Traced it back to the chips, like everyone else here. They did not taste like bad food, but like plastic, or antifreeze, or whatever. Not just old or stale or rancid, but foul. I wondered if I had poisoned. I found the 800 number in very small print but it was after hours for them. I wrote an e-mail to friends telling them that if I died during the night, I had left the meal for analysis. Called the 800 number and got an answering service that took down my info and said they would forward it to Betty, and I would probably get a coupon in the mail. Told her (sounded like Lily Tomlin) I didn't want a coupon, I wanted to know what I had ingested. She said there was no way to talk to the company directly. I asked if they had any other complains with these chips, she assured me the had not. it is 10/09/12 and the complains on here go back years. I wonder if Betty C reads these comments, or cares at all. If you get this Betty, please call... are these chips perhaps made in China with antifreeze like the dog food? I used to love Hamburger helper, especially the Mexican ones and beef Stroganoff... If I don't here back, beyond a coupon in the mail, there goes Betty Crocker from my pantry!

I made the crunchy taco mix this afternoon for lunch... I'm not sure why all these people think the chips are gross. I had no problem with them except they were a little small and I'd prefer tortilla-type chips rather than something like fritos. I thought it was delicious, tasted just like my mom's homemade tacos when I was a kid!

My husband made this Hamburger Helper Mexican Crunchy Taco mix. I had suggested to him to use some tortilla chips we had because I didn't realize that chips can in the box. I opened the box and saw that a bag of chips came with the mix. I opened the chips and the chips and inside the bag SMELLED RANCID, rotten and almost chemical like. My husband smelled the chips while they were in the bag and thought it was just the bag. He continued to make the entire mix and I took a small bite and thought I was going to be sick. He made himself a large bowl of it and sat down to eat it and within the first bite, he spit it out and thought he was going vomit. I have never seen him spit food out in 15 years. We had to throw the entire pan of it in 2 Ziploc bags because we didn't want any animals to get to it in the compost pile! I will be calling in the morning. Just wasted almost $6 in meat, milk and the Hamburger Helper box!! TERRIBLE!! I am saving the bag the corn chips came in and will send it to the company.
