Created January 10, 2017
Summers dog days make for some delicious memories. Bisquick senior editor Laura Nelli recounts how she spent some of the last days of summer at this year’s Minnesota State Fair.

Fall has arrived and though I’m eager for all the cozy adventures that a cooler season brings, there is a small part of me that is already missing the warm rays of the late summer sun and the fair-fueled fun that generally accompanies it. A little over a month ago, I headed out to the great Minnesota get-together on a two-part mission; 1. Discover some Bisquick recipe inspiration, and 2. Come face-to-face with the Minnesota winner of the Bisquick Family Favorites Recipe Contest.

Inspiration was around every twist and turn of the fair, but the foodie find that caught my eye were these fudge puppies — waffle strips on a stick, filled and covered with every delicious idea imaginable. The kiddos are going to love this one!

Besides eating my way around the fair, I was there for some BQ business, to meet the Lisa Silmser, the Minnesota winner of the Bisquick Family Favorites Recipe Contest, and watch her debut her award-winning Turkey Apple Puff recipe on KARE, a Minneapolis TV station.

The Bisquick Family Favorites Recipe Contest was not just held in Minnesota, but nearly 20 other state and county fairs around the country. Bisquick devotees were encouraged to enter their original Bisquick recipe for a chance to become a blue ribbon winner and have their recipe featured right here on Bisquick.com Nearly a hundred recipes were submitted at contests across the county. The good news for you is that the first round of inventive award-winning recipes from the 2013 Bisquick Family Favorites Recipe Contests are now available, ready for you to try!
