Cheerios 1st Birthday Party Décor

By Meghan McAndrews
Created January 10, 2017
With the yellow box of Cheerios in mind, we chose yellow and red for the party’s main colors and royal blue as an accent.

To create the Cheerios banner, stack three different shades of yellow scrapbook paper and cut rough circles—the best part is that the less perfectly round they are, the more they look like Cheerios. String to fit your space, using a little tape as you go. For the triangle bunting, download the PDF and print on sturdy paper, cut and hang!

Photos are a great way to personalize any party and a fun way to see how much your child has grown in a year. To make the banner on the table, have close-up photos of your child’s face enlarged (we went with four to a page) at your local office-supply store. Next, cut them out and deck with triangle paper hats. Bonus: the hats and pendants are the same size and shape to save time on cutting. Finally, create an adorable brim using craft glue and Cheerios cereal.

For another simple photo decoration, we printed out our favorite Instagrams from the babies’ first year and clipped them to a strung-up line using mini clothes pins. Guests will love seeing how much they’ve grown!

The pièce de résistance of our party is the giant Cheerios no. 1 sign. Creating it is as simple as printing an oversized no. 1, cutting it out and gluing on Cheerios. How easy is that?! To make it really pop, we matted ours on blue tagboard and painted a thrift-store frame to match.

We popped Cheerios on dollar-store party hats with craft glue for a fun touch.

Finally, what’s a party without party favors? Our Snack Attack mix is filled with little ones’ favorites: animal crackers, cheese bites and Cheerios cereal. Scooped into colorful cupcake holders and sealed in a cellophane bag and finished with a downloadable thank-you tag, it’s an easy treat for guests to take home.
