Whoever said you can’t have your cake and eat it, too, either didn’t have time to do both, or the cake wasn’t very good in the first place. The truth is, even during this hectic holiday season, you can make an effortless yet scrumptious dessert in little time, with sophistication to boot.

Take this recipe for pomegranate poached pears with ginger-orange mascarpone whipped cream. Sounds complicated, but the reality is you can have this gorgeous, yummy dessert on your dinner table in less than half an hour. Just like you can have your cake and eat it, too, you can have fancy without the fuss!

Get all your ingredients out and properly measured (aka, mise en place). That way, you don’t waste time scrambling to find an ingredient while you’re making the recipe.

Next, place those pretty pears in a medium saucepan, submerging them in pomegranate juice and sugar. Make sure they’re completely covered so they get that beautiful crimson color.

On the stovetop, bring the mixture to a boil, and then reduce the heat. Cover with the lid slightly ajar, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the pears are firm but no longer crunchy.
