The Mighty Mint Julep

A quick refresher on how to make the quintessential derby day drink.
Mint Juleps

Step One: Gather the Goods 

To make one mint julep you'll need 1.5 oz Kentucky Whisky, 1 oz mint syrup, ice, fresh mint and an 8 oz. glass or silver julep cup.

Step Two: Create a Quick Syrup

Add water and sugar to small saucepan and boil for 1-2 minutes stirring until sugar dissolves. Muddle mint to release oils and stir into syrup. Cool for 10 minutes.

Step Three: Make it Minty

Add 2 or 3 mint leaves to the bottom of the glass and muddle lightly with a wooden spoon or muddler. Next, fill glass with crushed ice.

Step Four: Pour and Stir 

Measure and pour 1.5 oz Kentucky Whiskey over ice and stir. Top with 1 oz mint syrup. To finish, garnish with remaining springs of fresh mint.

Step Five: Enjoy

Make mint juleps for a crowd by combining Kentucky Whiskey with mint syrup in a pitcher. As needed, muddle mint in each glass, pour, stir, garnish and serve.
