Betty Crocker® Oatmeal Cookie Mix and some simple additions make an ordinary apple crisp recipe extraordinary.
Apple Crisp

Apple crisp is an amazing dessert and one that most people love. But why not shake it up a little bit and add some extra surprises to this classic?

My daughter was having a sleepover, so I decided to make a few different versions of this dish. I cut up the apples, made the crumb topping and gave all the girls their own small ramekin cups. Then I set out caramel squares, dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, different types of nuts, mini marshmallows, graham crackers and sweetened shredded coconut. All the girls got a chance to stir in the things they liked.

You can imagine how great the house smelled with all these concoctions baking! The fun didn’t stop when the crisps came out of the oven. The girls could top the treats with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream and on and on…

We had so much fun tasting all the combinations. Our overall favorite was one made with dark chocolate, caramel and nuts and then topped with vanilla ice cream. We had some other yummy combinations that I will share with you in my recipe. But if you want to make our prize-winning combination, follow these easy instructions.

Start with Granny Smith apples and Betty Crocker® Oatmeal Cookie Mix.

bowl of green apples and a bag of Oatmeal Cookie mix

Place the cored, peeled and chopped apples in a greased 9x13 baking dish; sprinkle with flour and cinnamon. Mix well, making sure all the apples are coated. Evenly sprinkle chopped caramels over the apples. I don’t add any extra sugar because the cookie mix and the caramels make it sweet enough.

In a bowl, combine the cookie mix and melted butter until crumbly. Add nuts and chocolate chips; sprinkle over apple mixture. Bake, uncovered, for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling.
