Litchi
For years, most of the litchis (or litchinuts, as they were frequently known) to be found in the U.S. were imported from China. Now litchis are beginning to take root in the United States. Litchis are sweet, juicy, white-fleshed tropical fruits that are canned in heavy syrup. They can, however, be found fresh, and no amount of imagination can accurately predict the pleasure of biting into a fresh litchi--right through the crisp brown shell--for the first time.
