  Brussels Sprouts

A member of the cabbage family, these bright green veggies range from 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter and resemble tiny cabbage heads. Store sprouts in an airtight bag for just 3 days; otherwise, they’ll have a strong undesirable flavor.

How to Buy

Choose unblemished, bright green sprouts with compact leaves.

How to Prepare

Remove any discolored leaves; cut off stem ends. Wash sprouts; cut large sprouts in half.

How to Cook Conventionally

Boil: Uncovered 8 to 12 minutes or until tender.

Steam: Covered 8 to 12 minutes or until tender.

How to Microwave

Place in 1-quart microwavable casserole; add 2 tablespoons water. Cover. Microwave 5 to 6 minutes or until tender. Let stand 2 minutes; drain.
