Almonds are a truly international nut, playing an integral part in many cuisines. These blond-colored, slightly sweet nuts are grown in the Mediterranean, in Australia and in South Africa. Almonds can be purchased unshelled or shelled whole, slivered, sliced or chopped. Whole almonds may be blanched or unblanched.
