COOKING FOR A CROWD OF MEN ... NEED IDEAS!!!

My husband is a cop and every once in a while he has a bunch of guys from work over on a Saturday night to help take the edge off a stressful work week. They like to relax, have a few beers and play video games. I, of course, am always elected their personal chef for the night hehe. I'm tired of cooking the same 'ol thing. I cook the Velveeta dip with the sausage, beef, and Rotel tomatoes and pig in the blankets (as we call 'em here in the south). Everytime I try something new, they always consider it too "frou frou" and leave it untouched. I need some good recipes that pair easily with beer and are convenient for that "in between game" kind of eating--in other words, finger foods for dudes! =)

I've made salsa dip for work. Use a small glass pan (8 by11). spread a package of cream cheese in the botom, cover it with salsa of your choice, top with shredded cheese (either chedder or taco flavored). Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serve with Tostidos. The flavors together warmed up are really good. Easy finger food.

try buying different kinds of wraps (i.e. tomatoe, spinach etc.) and then just layer the good ole boys stuff in like ham and cheese, roast beef and cheese some lettuce a little mayo etc.  i then wrap them up tight and cut in half and serve on a platter.  [*-)]

My favorite easy to make meal:

Put a pork shoulder in the slow-cooker (2 if it is a huge crowd) and cook for 6-8 hours on low. Add a little water and a cup of BBQ sauce. Remove the bones & fat and shred wtih 2 forks before serving

Make cole-slaw with the pre-mixed cabbage. You can buy from the deli too, but it is cheaper to make, and the directions on the bag are easy. You have to make it a few hours ahead of time though.

Serve with hambuger buns, chips and slaw. You can leave it in the slow-cooker and they can serve themselves.

It's a filling, yummy, no-fuss meal.

I used to do pampered chef Parties and this always went over . Barbequed meat balls. I used a 2lb. bag of frozen meat balls, 1 botle of B.B.Q. sause, put them in a slow cooker or crock pot and heat on high for about 2 hours or slow cook 4 hours or all day, then cut hot dog buns into 4 pieces and let them make mini sandwiches. granna

Try meatballs in the crockpot. It's usually a big hit!! You can either buy the frozen meatballs or you can make your own meatballs from scratch. No need to thaw the frozen ones it will take about 1 to 2 hours on high to thaw them out. Just put the meatballs, a jar of grape jelly and a jar of chili sauce right in crockpot and cook on low. It's that simple. I am always asked to make these for the holidays from all my husband and son's friends.

Thanks for your recipe, I'm going to try it this weekend. Big Smile

My husbands friends are the same way.  Here is one my mother in law taught me that is always a hit.

Brown one pound of hamburger meat and drain.  Mix in an 8oz bottle of your favorite bar-b-que sauce, if you like things really saucy you might want to add a little more.  Take a can of refrigerated buscuits and form them into cups inside a muffin tin.  Fill the cups with your bbq hamburger and bake according to the direction on the can of dough.  When finished add a layer of shredded cheddar and let it melt.  They do not look pretty, in fact they look very manly.... good luck.

I live (house share) with three guys in New Zealand, and whenever they have get togethers like this, i slice potatos into wedges and bake them in a southern coating you can buy from the supermarket (thats actually made for chicken but just as good on potato), also, I grab a baking dish, and make a nacho lasagne. It looks like this:

CHEESE  SWEET CHILLI SAUCE

NACHO CHIPS

CHEESE SWEET CHILLI SAUCE CHILLI BEANS

NACHO CHIPS

in that order. Very simple man food, they get crisps, the get cheese, you can throw bacon or beef or guacamole in there, they get to eat with their fingers......always keeps them happy haha. Just layer it and bung it in the oven for 10 minutes till the cheese melts and you're done!

Mini beef mince pies are fun too, but can be a tad fiddly, i make them in muffin trays =)

I guess if I had that many guys coming over (and it's after work!), I would have to do more than finger foods!

An always-big-hit with guys are chili dogs.

Buy the Koeggel hot dogs or whatever local hot dogs come with skins. They are a bit more expensive, but oh so good!

Get some cans of hot dog sauce or chili.  The cheaper, the better, I don't know why, but it's true.  Heat in a pan.

Chop lots of onions. Shred some cheese--sharp cheddar is best. Have mustard on hand.

Get the regular hot dog buns (not whole wheat--they're invariably dry and crumbly), and make sure you get the freshest you can find. Right befoe serving, Microwave these briefly to warm.

Serve these buffet-style with chips and beer and you are set! They'll love you!

Hi EmilyBrown02, On the Paula Deam show she fixed "hogs in a Blanket", It was polish sausage wraped in Philo dough and baked. She cut one roll or package (I think a 1 lb. package) into 6 pieces then boiled them for a few min. to heat, then cut the philo dough the same, then wraped the sausages and baked. It really looked good.

I live with my boyfriend & his 2 brothers, so I cook for lots of men every night. It is quite easy to please men when it comes to food. I have an awesome crock pot cheese dip you can try. It takes a little bit to put together but it is really good with tortilla chips, preferably tostitos or mission works. 1 full size block of velveeta, 1 8oz cheddar cheese, 1 8oz jack cheese, 1 can diced green chiles, 2 regular size XLINT tamales ( in the refrigerator section) (warmed & mashed with a fork), 1 can Dennison's chili with no beans (warmed & mashed with a fork) Put all ingredients into crockpot & stir occasionally on high. Once melted keep warm.Whatever is left over, my brother warms it up, puts some in a roll with ham and devours it.

A couple other ideas for appetizers;

-Get sliced salami, spread with cream cheese & some peppercini's & weave with a toothpick.

-PINWHEELS: Get a flour tortilla, spread w/onion & chive cream cheese, sprinkle with garlic powder & a slice of ham, roll & cut into 3/4inch pieces.

-SWEET N' SOUR MEATBALLS: frozen/cooked small meatballs (about 3-4 lbs). throw them in a crockpot, or you can bake em in the oven, then throw em in the crock pot to keep warm. If you have a smart & final near you, get a large jug of sweet  n' sour sauce & a can of pineapple tidbits or chuncks, YUMMM!

-Get a block of cream cheese & a can of STAGG chili (any flavor) put it in the microwave & stir.

-You can get a big pack of smokie links (little weinies) and a big jar of bbq sauce, either put em on the stove or put em in a crockpot to keep em warm. Or line the bottom of a 9x13pam with brown sugar, wrap little smokies with raw bacon, bake in the oven till bacon is done, throw em in a crockpot to keep warm.

Hope one of these comes in handy!

What about Italian Sausage & Peppers - Super simple and oh so yummy!  According to my husband (also law enforcement), this is "man food" so I doubt you will be accoused of serving them frou frou food!

Hot or Sweet Sausage in Casing - cut into 5 inch pieces
Red & Green Bell Peppers - sliced
Sweet Onion - sliced
Adobo Seasoning (about 1 1/2 tsp. per pound of sausage)
Italian Seasoning (about 1 1/2 tsp. per pound of sausage)
Olive Oil

1.  Place sausage in a skillet with about 1/2 inch of water on medium heat.  Turn sausage over occasionally.
2.  Cook until the water has evaporated and add a generous amount of olive oil. (about 2-3 TBS per pound sausage)
3.  Add the sliced peppers, onions, Adobo and Italian Seasoning and toss well with the sausage.
4.  Continue to cook on medium heat until the sausage is done throughout and the vegetables are tender.

Serve on Italian rolls.

Alternate Serving suggestion:

At step 2 right before adding the olive oil, cut the sausage into 1/2 inch pieces.  Continue to cook for about 5 minutes before adding the rest of the ingredients INCLUDING 2 cans of undrained diced tomatoes with olive oil and basil*.  Cook on low heat until the vegetables are tender and some of the liquid has reduced.  Toss sausage and pepper mixture with a 1/4 cup of parmeasean cheesea pasta of your choice.  Top with more parmesean cheese.

If you find that you need more liquid as you are cooking the vegetables, just add some V8 juice, taste and re-season.

* You will need 2 cans of diced tomatoes per pound of sausage.

Please accept my apologies for the lack of exact amounts, I cook to taste and rarely truly measure anything.  Happy Cooking!

Welcome to the Message Boards!

This is popular in my family; we call it “Thingys in Stuff.”  It is simply kielbasa slices and cocktail wieners in barbeque sauce.  I pre-cook the kielbasa slices in a frying pan to get excess fat out of them.  Then put the wieners and kielbasa into a slow cooker with just enough barbeque sauce to coat them.  If you let them warm in the sauce for a couple of hours, it will allow the flavor to soak into the meat.

I haven’t tried this recipe from one of my favorite blogs (The Pioneer Woman) but it certainly looks like something that would go over well.  The name of the recipe is “The Marlboro Man’s Second Favorite Sandwich.”  [His Favorite is awesome – lots of butter and beef…]  The site for the sandwich recipe is:

You may want to check out some of her other recipes as well.  I’m sure there is something there your guys would like!
