Help Please!

Hi Hi.. I had to start a new conversation because I can never find my posts or the responses to them.. I followed the directions in the Q&A.. but it didn't work..

anywhoo.. my prob is that I'm not in the US so I don't have access to all these different mixes that are listed in recipes.. I was looking at a recipe for Jambalaya (for example) and it told me to use some seasoning mix.. and there were no suggested substitutions for this mix.  Same thing with the other recipes I've looked at. (Funny thing was that this jambalaya called for diced tomatos with red peppers.,, and there was a substitution suggestion that said if I couldn't find this product, I could use diced tomatos and put red peppers in seperately.. LOL.. as if I could figure that one out.. LOL)  Please help.. I would like to make quick, easy dinners for my family (i have infant twins.. so i don't have much time..)

Thanks so much for any help you could give me.

Welcome to the Kitchen: Introduce Yourself

Welcome to the Message Boards!

There are a lot of places to find recipes for "home made mixes" on the net.  I usually have good luck finding out how to make my own mixtures by using Google search using the words "copycat" and the name of the mix.  If you get stumped I'm sure you will be able to find someone here that can help you with a specific mix if you need it.

By the way, if it's a Cajun spice mixture for your Jambalaya that you need it is mostly cayenne pepper and salt, along with much smaller amounts of  onion and garlic powder, bay leaves, thyme, sweet basil and  chili powder.  I usually just salt to taste and use cayenne pepper for seasoning mine as well as use chopped/minced onion and garlic when I am cooking the meat instead of using the powders.

Thank you AlabamaCooker!  I was just getting ready to get that and repost it for Waitforme78.  It is a little difficult to navigate message boards sometimes.

I have been able to find recent posts by clicking on the red number of posts on the left side of the message beside the name of the member I wanted to check out.  It may help Waitforme78 to find her posts...

From time to time I run across a specific ingredient or mix I am not familiar with.  Sometimes I have found the answer by doing a Google search.

I'm sure if you have a question about a specific mix, if you post the recipe here, someone will be able to help with a substitution.
