 Love the flag cake!

This year I am throwing a big 4th of July party.........in England! I need some help and ideas with recipes and substitutions. Think BASIC to make something really special!

My menu so far:

Hamburgers with the fixings

Green salad (what kind?)

Potato Salad (mom is bringing her MAGICAL recipe)

Watermelon (if I can find one!)

Baked Beans (the BC recipe online looks awesome, but I don't have a slow cooker...how do I fix this??)

Cupcakes (I have the red and blue BC ones! Complete with a flag topper!)

Any other ideas? I think the party will be for about 30 people...

I think in stead of a green salad do a kidney bean salad or a 3 bean salad will hold up better than a green salad.
You can do baked beans in a casserole rather than a slow cooker, do them in the oven at a very low temp, if they look like they are getting dry on the surface stir before you think you need to add liquid.  (I have not looked at the recipe you are talking about though)  Just watch your temp. and keep it low.
You could also do a pasta salad, that holds up well and gets better,  I do keep the pasta seperate from the other ingredients until the day I serve it so the pasta does not get overly saturated with the dressing.  I add the following to my pasta salad, black olives, marinated artichoke hearts(drained), marinated mushrooms(drained), roasted red peppers, chunks of mozzarella cheese, chunks of salami, and onion.   I put all these items in a zip top bag add 1/2 to 3/4 of a good Italian dressing and I set them in the refrigerator.  I boil up a tri color pasta, I like raditori or a spiral shape, when it is al dente I drain and ice it down, when it is cold I will place it into a zip top bag and add some dressing, just enought to keep it from sticking, this goes into the refrigerator.  When I get ready to serve  I empty the bags into a big bowl and stir.
Enjoy.

Hi,

I have a recipe for a lettuce          salad my family and friends love.

                        Broccoli Salad:

                         Ingredients :

                        1. Two heads lettuce cut into bite size pieces

                        2.Package of shredded carrots

3.Head of cauliflower- cut into bite size pieces

4.Head broccoli - cut into bite size pieces

5.Purple onion sliced small, to taste

6.May use   other vegetables you enjoy

7.1 pound bacon cooked, then broken into bite sized pieces

                               Dressing:

Mix 2 cups Mayonaise with 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, and about 1/4 cup sugar or splenda .

You can adjust the amount of sugar to taste. Also Don't put dressing on salad until right before serving.

                                       Instructions:

Toss all salad ingredients together, including bacon.

Immediately before serving stir dressing throughout salad.

HOPE YOU LIKE THIS RECIPE. It's delicious.

ps,I buy bags of broccoli and cauliflower already chopped and just cut them a little smaller.

                                              Enjoy,Amy
