Hi, I have a recipe that was handed down to me from an Aunt who used to make these cakes during WWII & sent them to the service men she knew that were overseas.  She called it Poor Man's Fruitcake

1/2 Pkg. (15oz.) Raisens                   1 tsp. of each Cinnamon, Gr. Cloves, Nutmeg & Ginger

1/2 C. Shortening                              1 C. Water

1 1/4 C. Sugar

Mix all ingredients in a pot & bring to a boil, stir in  1 tsp. Baking Soda and set aside to cool.  When cooled, add 2 C. Flour & 1 tsp. Baking Powder.  Mix, pour into greased & flowered small loaf pan. Bake in 350 oven for 1 hr. approx.

Enjoy!!  Lucia
