What’s your favorite ingredient to add to your homemade Chex mix?

It’s around the holidays again… and I was thinking about making bags of chex for friends and co-workers for little gifts. What do you love to put in your homemade chex mix?

Always peanuts.   Why don't you try sugar and hot peanuts to add to the mix.  I love the sweet and hot.   How bout you.

I like to put my chex mix in goodie bags.  Like the ones that have the holiday prints on them and the bag it self is clear.  Then I like to print out my own gift cards and punch a hole  in the corner and tie them around the bag with curling ribbon.  It is inexpensive and fun to do.  You  can usually find really nice bags a dollar store.

I add extra cashews, cheddar cheese goldfish & sometimes honey roast peanuts.   It's always better with extra nuts!

I've never made the homemade kind, but when I get the store bought I like to add popcorn, gummies (for Halloween the worms are great!) and m&m's. U can do either peanut or plain or mix them, reeses pieces are good in there too. I like the salty and the sweet mixed together! YUM Smile

I HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED THE TASTE OF CRASINS. I HAVE STARTED ADDING IT TO ALL OF MY SALADS, ESPECIALLY COLD SALADS ANS SIDES.  SO I RECOMMEND CRASINS, THEY'RE GOOD AND HEALTHY FOR YOU.

My mom has made this for our family since the 50s. I make it now for my family. I make alot as we have a big family. I buy 1 box cheerios, 1box each wheat chex, rice chex, corn chex. I buy a fresh bag of whole almonds and a bag of mixed nuts. We also add a bag of pretzles. I warm butter (lots) and add celery salt, careful it will get salty. then a small amount of hickory smoke liquid. The butter should just coat the mixture not drown it. You might need 2 large baking sheets and spead the mixture out and bake 250/2hrs stirring off and on till crispy. We make a week or so before a holiday and store in zip lock bags but it goes so fast it's usually eaten by then and I make another batch. I just looked at my recipe card and also add a bit of garlic salt. and I meant to tell you you add worchtershire to taste to the butter before coating the cereal.anita-have fun from my home to yours!!!

when life throws u lemons make lemonade!!!

Don't the peanuts tend to fall to the bottom of the bowl?

I make a huge vat of party mix every year and I put it in ziploc bags.  I use about 10 boxes of cereal so it makes a lot, so I store it in 2 gallon ziploc bags and then put in smaller bags when I'm ready to pass it out.

I've had it stay good for months actually.   I know it doesn't usually last that long but it's my Mother in laws recipe and she passed last year so the boys looked at it more than ate it last year.  I actually asked to make sure they wanted it this year and they do.  Her recipe calls for bacon grease in place of some of the butter.  It gives it a good savory taste.

white chocolate chips, dried cranberries and candied pecans
