Celebrate National Peach Month!

Hey fellow foodies! Guess what we need to celebrate this month… peaches! That’s right, August is dedicated to that fuzzy little fruit that works in sweet or savory dishes.

Before we get to the “pit” of the matter, The Nibble offers us some fun facts! For example, did you know…

…Peach varieties can be either clingstone, where the flesh of the fruit clings to the stone, or freestone, where the stone readily twists away from the fruit. The former type is generally used for canning; the latter is generally found in supermarkets. Both are available in both white and yellow varieties.

…You can ripen peaches by placing them in a brown paper bag for two to three days. Sliced, fresh peaches should be tossed in lemon or lime juice to prevent browning.

…A peach pit contains hydrocyanic acid, which is a poisonous substance. Yikes! Watch out for that!

Betty Crocker also gives us a definition of donut peaches: http://www.bettycrocker.com/how-to/glossary/Ingredients/P-R/P/Peaches-Donut.htm

Now that you know a little more, here are some great recipes you should cook up to honor this fantastic fruit!

Cornmeal Chicken with Peach Salsa – Peaches go south of the border in this spin on breaded chicken.

Planked Salmon with Peach Mango Salsa
– Have you been searching for a fresh take on grilled salmon? This is a tropical twist on a fishy favorite, using a peachy topping!

Strip Steaks with Chipotle Peach Glaze – Keep your date night spicy AND sweet with these impressive steaks.

The rest of the peachy treats are brand spanking new. Be the first to tell us what you think by reviewing them!

Peach Melba Shortcakes – Strawberry who? After serving this, peaches and raspberries will redefine the shortcake for you.

Cinnamony Stuffed Grilled Peaches – An easy way to make Cheerios look fancy!

Fresh Peaches with Amaretto Sauce – This 5-ingredient sauce is decadent, but doesn’t outshine the simply delish peach slices.

Peaches and Cream Coffee Cake – Who wouldn’t want to jumpstart their day with a little peach pie filling on top of cake? Add a cup of joe and you’re good to go!

What’s your favorite way to cook or bake with peaches? Do you know any other fun peach facts or tips? Please share!
