What's the best cake you've ever eaten?

Hello Everybody! Even though it's pie season with Thanksgiving on its way soon, I'm so excited to have started reading “Cake” by Nicola Humble in my free time.

Probably one of my favorite desserts, it's been interesting so far to read about the origins and history of this most famous of sweets the world over. The book takes a thorough historical and international look at cake throughout the centuries and examines what cake means to us today. Because food varies so much from culture to culture, it's been really interesting so far to read about this particular food from the perspective of a British author. I've just begun reading the chapter called “Cakes Around the World” where the author examines the historical and cultural context of cakes in different countries. As an outsider looking in, I'm not sure the author is entirely accurate about her description of baking culture in America.

Aside from this minor hang-up, I've really enjoyed the historical look at cake so far, and was surprised to learn that cakes date back as far as ancient Greece, although cake to them generally meant something flat and round. I'm excited to find out how cake has evolved from this state to the fluffy sweet dessert that we know today, and to read more about the  cakes and desserts that are prominent in other countries!

I'll let you know how the book turns out, and in the meantime, what's the best cake you've ever eaten? Where did it come from?

I love the strawberry cake I make. I call it Mel's Super Moist Strawberry Cake. I use Betty Crocker cake mix, but add strawberry jello, frozen strawberries, and a few other things to the mix and then make a glaze again with frozen strawberries and pour it over the top. It's extremely moist like a Tres Leche Cake maybe moister and bursting with yummy strawberry flavor.

The best cake I ever ate and made is called The Beast a flourless dark chocolate cake made with high cocao baking chocolate, butter, eggs & sugar are the base of this SINFUL cake. Topped with chocolate ganache oh so wonderful. Simple and fun to make it lives up to its' name The Beast. I got the recipe off of Epicurious.com

many years ago there was a cake mix called chocolate macaroon cake I loved it and made it often for  my family then it quit being made so now I make a coconut cake that everyone loves using super moist cake mix and I add a ton of coconut to the mix, then add it to the layers between the cake and top the frosted cake with even more coconut. I have even used a pineapple filling between layers that got rave reviews.
