Pet treats

Hi all - not sure if this is the right place but looking for help

Anyone have some quick and easy dog treat recipes out there?

I make all my dog treats and we have 5 dogs. It's really fun and economical. You also know what goes into your own treats. Here is a simple one. You can vary it a lot to suit your dogs taste. I usually add a little garlic and dried parsley. I've done it with dried cranberries and blueberries too. The improtant thing is to get them dried. I buy all my specialty flours in bulk and store in our "doggie fridge".

3 1/2 cp whole wheat flour or brown rice flour

2 cups old fashioned oats

1 cup milk

1/2 chicken broth (you can use bullion, but watch out for MSG, not good for the doggies)

1/2 cup meat drippings (left over from fixing a roast or whatever in the slow cooker)

Mix together wet ingredients and add dry. I roll it out on parchment paper and just score it for breaking later, but you can get fancy and use cookie cutters.

300 for 1 hour. Leave in oven to dry at least 8 hours. Store in airtight container.

Here is a really neat website that has a downloadable doggie cookbook.

I have heard that garlic, along with onion, chocolate, avocado, grapes, raisins, and probably a few other things I can't remember offhand, is bad for dogs so I would suggest leaving the garlic out of the treats.

I was watching "Stuff Happens" on the green channel- and they were talking about flea's on dogs. And they said a garlic clove a day could prevent fleas. I think the link is here: http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/stuff-happens/episode-pet-carbon-footprint.html

I made these with my 5 year old "granddaughter".  We had fun making them and the dogs loved them.

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

55 min. | 15 min. prep

Ingredients

2 eggs

1/2 cup canned pumpkin (not pie filling)

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons dry milk

2 1/2 cups flour (wheat is probably better!)

water as needed.

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.

3. Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.

4. The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.

5. You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.

6. Roll to 1/2-inch thick.

7. Cut into shapes. (we used dog bone & gingerbread men cutters)

8. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

9. Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Ranner, Thanks!   They sound great and I'll try them out on my dogs.  They love dried sweet potatoes so they'll probably love these.
