Cookies

I have been baking tons of different types of cookies the past couple days and am noticing somingthing odd with my drop cookies. I made two types of drop cookies, both chocolate based. They spread more than they should have and appear kind of bubbly on top. Do you think the oven temp was the problem? Icut the baking time and temp but that didn't seem to make too much of a difference while I was baking. But maybe the oven was just too hot. Any other ideas?

Are you using butter, margarine or shortening in the cookies that spread?  If you are using margarine, I've noticed that the cookie does not come out exactly as you are accustomed to seeing.  I think there is more water in margarine now than there used to be.  I solved the problem by switching over to butter.  If you're using shortening, I haven't noticed any difference in the end result cookie.
