Old Betty Crocker Recipes

years ago (early 70's) I got a Betty Crocker cookbook entitled cookies and candies.

in the back part of the book was a recipe I believe called spiced/candied walnuts, when I moved I lost, misplaced most of my cookbooks. I was wondering if anyone might still have that recipe?

Crispy Sugared Walnuts

3 cups walnut halves

1 Tbs Butter

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Heat walnut halves on cookie sheet in moderate oven (375-F) for 5 minutes, stirring once.

Butter sides of heavy 2-quart saucepan.

In saucepan, combine sugar, water, cinnamon and salt.

Heat and stir until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Using candy thermometer, cook without stirring to softball stage (236-F degrees).

Remove from heat.

Beat by hand about 1 minute or until mixture just begins to get creamy. Add vanilla and the warm walnut halves.

Stir gently till walnut halves are well coated and mixture becomes creamy.

Turn out on buttered platter or cookie sheet.Separate at once using two spoons or forks.

Let cool. Makes about 1 pound of crunchy Sugared Walnuts.

Those who forget the pasta are condemned to reheat it.
