I have found that using the slow cooker is the quickest and easiest way to get dinner on the table fast without eating up alot of my time in the kitchen. There are so many ways to use the slow cooker from hearty soups to main dishes. Almost every cooking web-site has recipies for slow cookers. Some of my favorites are -
Texas stew - 1 round steak cut into 1" peices or stew meat, 1 can green beans, 1 can carrots, 1 can sliced potatoes (you can even use the real vegi's or frozen) 1 can tomato soup, 1/4 soup can of water, garlic powder, onion powder, season salt, sugar, cinnamon (all to taste). I mix everything together except the meat and pour over the meat.
Salsbury Steak - 1 round steak, 1 can cream of celery or mushroom soup, 1 pkg onion soup mix. Mix the soup and the onion soup together add a little water to make a creamy but not runny consistancy and pour over meat. Then when you get home make mashed potatoes and a vegi. The soup makes a great gravy for over the potatoes.
I also use the slow cooker for chicken and beef to have the meat cooked when I get home to use in other recipes like BBQ's and mexican dishes. Just add a little water and beef or chicken boulion granuals and season the meat with the seasonings that your family likes. I use garlic & onion powder and season sale.
Using the slow cooker is great for using cheaper and tougher peices of meat - they all come out tender and very flavorful.
Good luck and happy cooking.
