Crazy Crust Dinners

Help.   This recipe is over thirty five years old, but it was great.  I got the original sheet of 6 recipes inside a bag of flour, but lost all my recipes in a house fire.   My family loved these dinners.   You made a batter of flour and eggs and I don't remember what else and spread it in a pie plate.   Then you cooked the ingredients in a frying pan, poured them into the batter, sprinkled it with grated cheese, and put it in the oven for about 30 minutes.  The batter rose around the meat ingredients like a pizza crust.   It serves six people with salad and rolls and you could reheat the leftovers (if there were ever any) in the microwave or the oven the next day.   If anyone has this OLD OLD recipe sheet, please contact me at **********************    I would SOOO appreciate getting this recipe sheet again.

Here is the recipe - seems everyone loved the old crazy crust pizza - my mother used to make it all the time - one of our favorites - did search and here it is

This is one of the original 'crazy crust' recipes from Betty Crocker - before it used Bisquick! My mother discovered it in the early 1970s, and this is adapted from the recipe card she wrote.

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 65 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1-1/2 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning blend

  • 1/8 tsp. white pepper

  • 2/3 cup milk

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 4 oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 cup shredded Colby cheese

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 cups pizza sauce

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cook ground beef and onion in a heavy saucepan over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is tender, stirring to break up meat. Drain well and set aside. Lightly grease 14" round pizza pan and dust with flour. Set aside. In medium bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, seasoning blend and pepper and mix well. Add milk and eggs and stir just until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan, tilting pan as necessary so batter covers bottom of pan. Sprinkle cooked ground beef, onions, and drained mushrooms over batter.

Bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes until pizza is golden brown. Remove pizza from oven, drizzle with pizza sauce and sprinkle with shredded cheeses. Return to oven for 12-18 minutes until crust is deep golden brown and cheese is melted.
