Yummy Polish Dinner!

Being a little bit Polish one meal I LOVE from childhod and still make today is Polish boiled dinner. Depending on family size this can be adjusted. This is for 6-8 people.

  • 2 polska kielbasas

  • 1 head cabbage

  • 6-8 carrots

  • 4-8 potatoes

  • 1 brown onion

  • salt

  • pepper

  • butter or margarine

Cut up and put all ingredients in large pot or pressure cooker. Set to med. low.

Add salt, pepper, and butter to taste.

Check for doneness ocationally add butter and pepper to your bowl

Simple and easy. Takes about 10-15 minutes to prepare.

Can also be made in a large crock pot or slow cooker. Just throw everything in in the morning set at low and eat for dinner.

I cook, therefore I am!!! LOL

Do you add water to the pot if not using a crockpot or pressure cooker?  I make something similar, but only use 1/2 head cabbage and add an undrained large jar of sauerkraut.  If it seems to be drying out as it cooks (low heat) I add some water to moisten it.  When almost done, I stir and taste a bit.  If it seems too tart, I add a bit of brown sugar until it's as I like it.  Comfort food in a pot!

Hi sisandles, That dose look relly good, I love polska kielbasas, but usually eat it on a sandwich with green peppers, onion, and mustard. I do have a couple questions? 1. Is that two packages, like 1 lb. packs, and what is a "brown onion"?  Thanks, Granna2

Hislsandles, I finally got to try your recipe. I didn't put the cabbage in because my daughter-in-law was here for dinner and can't eat cabbage,:-(, all of us liked it. But, it was good and iyt's a keeper recipe. Next time i'll try the cabbage. I did bake it in the oven, which made it easy. Thanks, Granna2

Granna2: I love that you make the recipes that members share. Thank you for telling us your review. Smile Infact, I posted your review for the Cheesecake Pancakes (that new recipe that was inspired by the boards)- in the review section. What happened was people were writing reviews before trying it- and someone was upset about that- so I had told them about your review. You can see it here: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/recipereviews?recipeID=47593. Anyways- I am grateful I was able to share your review. Thanks again.

Sincerely, Cate
