Dessert to compliment my cubed steak!

Hi all! I don't cook often and have decided that tonight I will cook cubed steak with green beans and mashed potatoes and I may even make some biscuits..mmmm..my  mouth is watering just thinking about it. Does anyone have any simple dessert ideas that might compliment the meal I have planned? Also any tips on the cubed steak would be appreciated too. Have a nice day!

Hi Traci,

I am not sure if you wanted a recipe for the cube steak, when you asked about tips.  However, in case you do, here is a good one.  I just got home and read your post -so you may have already made your meal by now.  If not -or if you want to use the recipe another time, here it is.

For dessert, why not make an easy, Bisquick cobbler?  I have several recipes for cobblers made with Bisquick. Here is a simple, fast and good recipe.  You can use Peach pie filling, as well as the cherry or blueberry.  Your meal sounds yummy! Enjoy! AtlantaPat  Wink

Country Fried Cube Steak with Gravy

4 cube steaks, about 1 pound

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

2/3 cup buttermilk

1 cup finely crushed saltines, about 20 to 25 crackers

3 tablespoons shortening

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup

1 cup milk

Combine flour and pepper in a shallow bowl. Pour buttermilk into a second shallow bowl. Put cracker crumbs into a third shallow bowl.
Dredge cubed steaks in the flour, dip into the buttermilk, then coat with the cracker crumbs, pressing with hands if necessary to coat thoroughly. Melt shortening in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook steaks for about 3 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned and cooked through. Drain off most of the excess fat, leaving the dregs, or browned bits.

Add soup and milk to the skillet drippings; stirring and scraping up browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Serve steaks with the hot, creamy gravy. Cube Steak Recipe Serves 4.

Bisquick Cobbler

1 can cherry pie filling (or Peach, Blueberry, Raspberry, etc.)

1 cup Bisquick

1 cup sugar

1 cup milk

1 stick softened butter (or margarine)

Spread pie filling in pan.  Mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour on top of the pie filling.   Bake for 45 minutes at 400 degrees.  Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.  Yum! Yum!

I have done cubed steak almost like a parmesean.
Dip the cubed steaks in flour.  Pan fry until golden brown on both sides, and the juices start to run clear.
Pour a jar of your favorite pasta sauce over the top, just spoon some over each one.  Top with a few slices of mozzarella cheese.
Place in the oven while you finish the rest of the meal, you only have to heat  the sauce through and melt the cheese.

For your cubed steak tonight I think a good dessert would be a "Dump Cake"
Can of Cherry pie filling
Can of pineapple(crushed) undrained
Box of cake mix, white or yellow.
2/3 cup of butter cut into pats.
1 Cup nuts, almonds or pecans If desired.
Dump can of pie filling in 13X9 pan.  Spread around.  Dump in can of pineapple, spread around.  Sprinkle cake mix over the top of fruit. Add nuts to the top if desired.   Cut butter into pats and lay over the top of cake mix
Bake at 350 degrees F.  for 45-50 minutes

I have not tried other fruits but I would guess that apple pie filling would be good with a spice cake.  And there is a version of this that I make with pumpkin pie filling on the bottom, (made just like you were doing a pie) sprinkle a spice cake mix or yellow over the top of the pie filling add the butter and bake.  I think it is better than a pumpkin pie.
Enjoy dinner.
