Hi retaj1!

Here's a "from scratch" recipe for you.  Enjoy!

Make Ahead Pancake and Waffle Batter

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 pkg. active dry yeast

2 cups milk

1/4 cup margarine, butter, or oil

3 eggs

In a large bowl, combine first 4  ingredients.  In small saucepan heat milk and margarine until very warm (120 to 130 degrees).  Add to flour mixture along with eggs.  Beat at medium speed until smooth.  Cover and refrigerate up to four days, adding 2 additional tablespoons sugar after second day.  Bake as any other pancakes or waffles.

I've made this recipe several times now.  So good.

Let set for 15 minutes.

Combine liquid ingredients:

2 tsb melted margarine

Add to dry ingredients.

Cook pancakes using medium heat in a warmed frying pan lightly buttered.

ENJOY!

Hot buttered biscuits

Something happens when you mix up simple ingredients like flour, salt, baking powder, butter and milk and you create something wonderful.  The magic happens when you serve these biscuits to your family and friends.  The magic is the memories the biscuits create that reminds every one of special times with their mothers or grandmothers.  So, my challenge to all of you is to create special memories with your family and learn to make homemade biscuits. If you have been afraid that they would not turn out, you can do it!!  Just follow these steps. For additional Pictures visit www.recipesforourdailybread.com

Homemade biscuits take time and a little trouble but those love ones enjoying them, will never forget them.  Take this challenge and try these delicious biscuits. I know you can do it and your family will love them.

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 TB double-acting baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

2/3 cup buttermilk

2/3 cup heavy cream

3 TB of melted butter to brush on top after removing from the oven

In a large bowl combine the sifted flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut the butter into the flour mixture.  If you do not have a pastry cutter, you can use a large fork. Combine the butter and the flour until the mixture has very fine crumbles.

Make a well in the center of the flour and add the buttermilk and heavy cream. Combine all the ingredients until it forms a soft ball.  I like to use my hands to form the ball. Melt a 2 tablespoons of butter in a cast-iron skillet or a cast-iron biscuit pan or line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface of the dough and the rolling-pin.  Roll dough out to 3/4 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter or cookie cutter.  Don't forget to flour the biscuit cutter.  When you cut out a biscuit, turn the cookie cutter only 1/4 of a turn.

Place in the cast iron skillet or cookie sheet.  Bake 350 degrees for 22 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove from the oven and brush the tops of the biscuits with 3 TB melted butter.

Made from scratch Cheese Biscuits

Cheese Biscuit Recipe:

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 TB double-acting baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

1  1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (I use Cabbot Cheese) You really need a sharp cheddar to be able to taste the cheese in these biscuits.

2/3 cup buttermilk

2/3 cup heavy cream

3 TB of melted butter to brush on top after removing from the oven

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt a 2 tablespoons of butter in a cast-iron skillet or a cast-iron biscuit pan or line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl combine the sifted flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut the butter into the flour mixture.  If you do not have a pastry cutter, you can use a large fork. Combine the butter and the flour until the mixture has very fine crumbles.  See picture below.  At this point add the cheese.

Make a well in the center of the flour and add the buttermilk and heavy cream. Combine all the ingredients until it forms a soft ball.  I like to use my hands to form the ball.

Remove from the oven and brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter, salt and garlic powder mixture.

I recently got the recipe from a good friend, and they are the best bicuits I've ever had...Big Smile

Basic Biscuits

2 cups flour

4 tbsp baking powder

1/4 tsp. soda

1/2 tsp. salt

4 tbsp. cold butter or shortening, or combo.

1 cup cold buttermilk or 2/3 cups milk w/o the soda

Mix dry ingredients together.  Work in the fat until mealy.  Add milk and stir with fork until just combined.  Turn onto floured surface.  Will be sticky, if too sticky, work in more flour.  Dust with flour.  Push over onto itself 5-6 times.  Pat gently until as thich as your hand.  Cut into biscuits.  Place on baking sheets, sides barely touching.

Bake 15-20 minutes at 450.

Hi! Soundz like a great recipe, but I have 2 questions. I don't have any heavy cream. I know how to turn my regular milk into buttermilk, but how can change my regular cream into heavy cream? Also, if I chop them small, can I add strawberries to this recipe? If so, are there any adjustments I'd need to make? Thanks!

I use self-rising flour, oil, and milk for my biscuits.

2 cups self-rising flour

1 cup milk

1/4 cup oil

mix in a bowl and if you want cheese biscuits that is when you add shredded cheese... then use a tbsp to drop on a cookie sheet

bake at 450 for 12-15 minutes

not only do they look delicious, but they look homemade because they are not perfectly round :D
