waffles

when on vacation we found a breakfast spot that had fantastic waffles.  After we got home we bought a waffle maker and I have tried 3 different recipes to make Belgian waffles.  What is the difference between regular waffles and belgian waffles?

I just made belgian waffles for the first time two weekends ago. My uncle lent me his nice Kitchen Aid waffle maker that makes two waffles at one time. Anyways- to keep it easy- I tried it with the Bisquick Heart Smart- and threw in some pumpkin pie spice. I could smell the spices when cooking but it didn't really impact the taste. I'll keep tinkering around with it. If you have any must-have waffle recipes- I would love to know!

Sincerely, Cate

Hey, CateC. I just made these this weekend, and then found your post. Thought I would pass this recipe along. It is a good standard, crispy waffle recipe. I generally cut it in half, and still have enough for the next morning. (There is only 2 of us) The left over batter does well for 2 or 3 days. Hugs, ldbayou

PERFECT WAFFLES

2 1/ 2 c flour                                                  3/ 4 tsp salt

4 tsp baking powder                                        2 Tbls sugar

2 beaten eggs                                                2 1/ 4 c milk

3/ 4 c melted shortening (I use part butter)       1/ 4 tsp butter flavoring (optional)

Combine dry ingredients, then liquid ingredients, and then blend together. Beat till smooth. Batter will be thin. Bake in hot waffle iron. Makes 8-10 waffles depending on size of iron. These are light and delicious.

Hi ldbayou: Thank you for sharing your recipe for perfect waffles. My hubby's b-day is next weekend and he's requested blueberry waffles. Have you added things like that to the recipe above? Sincerely, Cate

Hi CateC.  No, I haven't.  So can't advise.  Maybe try one, and find out?  I have done so with pancakes, but never waffles.  Hugs
