Can't do spices

I am trying to lose weight, but most of the healthy eating recipes use peppers and spices which I am unable to eat.  They don't like me.  I keep reading that spices, etc. are the way to go to lose weight.  How can I keep the flavor in healthy eatting without the peppers and spices?

Hi Buckey413!

Although the heat from spices helps speed up your metabolism it is not necessary to eat spicy foods to lose weight.  The key is to eat less calories than you burn.  Have you consulted with your doctor regarding losing weight and how spices, etc, affect your tummy?  The doctor should be able to help you chart a successful weight-loss course.  Be sure to discuss excersize  as well.   Don't get sucked into "Fad" diets that restrict certain food groups like carbs.  A balanced eating plan is the best way to go.

Hi, @Buckeye413! Welcome to the forum! @BLT1958 is correct - a diet alone is a great way to get healthy, but the key to weight loss is a proper diet and exercise plan. Consult your doctor for the best advice!

I am on an exercise regiment, including a trainer, as well, but figuring out the eatting piece is crucial in losing the weight and keeping it off as well.  I broil the meat and fish, eat lots of vegetables and fruit, drinks lots of water and have cut out the sodas except maybe once or twice a week, etc.  But I am looking for recipes - try new things - but they are pretty bland without flavoring and the recipes always add spices and peppers.  I'm good at following recipes, but not good at experimenting.

I have talked to my doctor, but not a great source for recipes.  I just want to know what would be a good substitute for peppers and spices.

Hi Buckeye,

Have you considered using lemon juice, I like to use some fresh lemon juice over my salad just before serving. Grating a small amount of aged parmesan cheese or asiago cheese over salad or veggies can add lots of flavor. Feta cheese adds lots of flavor, it is popular for people on diets because you only need to use just a little for alot of flavor. Vinegars are full of flavor and the variety of vinegars are endless. Balsamic is very popular and adds lots of wonderful flavor. Last but not least, you can pan roast or roast nuts in the oven and then chop, delicious in salads, veggies, pasta. Chop fresh basil, fresh parsley , shallots, any of these add great flavor. Good luck with your exercise regiment and eating plan , I know it isn't easy, my husband and I work at it everyday !
