sugar cookies

I have been trying to find an old fashioned cake sugar cookie. I have tried several recipes,but none are like soft sugar cakes. My son loves them, I wish I could find a great recipe and finally make him happy. Can anyone HELP????

Mary's Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Granulated sugar


Beat powdered sugar and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in vanilla, almond extract and egg. Stir in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm.

Heat oven to 375º. Roll half of dough at a time 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

Easy Sugar Cookies

1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine or butter (2 sticks) -- softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 large egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
Sugar, colored sugar or candy sprinkles


Heat oven to 375º.

Beat in large bowl with wooden spoon until smooth:
1 cup sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 large egg


Stir in:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Shape dough by teaspoonfuls into spheres. Place dough spheres about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

Flatten spheres gently with bottom of glass dipped in:
Sugar, colored sugar or candy sprinkles

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set and edges just begin to brown. Cool cookies on cookie sheet 1 minute, then remove with spatula to wire rack.
Cool.









Those who forget the pasta are condemned to reheat it.
