Q & A for Betty Crocker Community

Need help understanding how to start a new thread? Want to alert us to site issues? Have to ask the moderator (ShannaQ) a question? This is the category to do it!

The new layout is not working very well

I don't know what they've done to the site, but I have to constantly log back in (once I got my account back, that is, because for a while it wouldn't let me log in at all) and clicking on my "recipe box" does no good because it doesn't TAKE me to my recipe box, it throws me back to the previously-viewed page.

Is anyone else having problems? I didn't know which forum to post this in, so I chose this one. I don't like this new layout at all. It doesn't keep me logged in like it used to, won't go to my recipe box when I click on it, and I have to log back in after about 5 minutes of inactivity.

Any other comments or problems being had by anyone else?

The other problem I'm having is when I click on a recipe, once the page loads it doesn't always show the entire recipe, it gets cut off. So I have to reload the page to view the entire thing.

I thought that I was having the same problem too..however, I noticed that it doesn't nessecarily bring you back to the recipe box, but just list the recipes below the recipe box tab. Same with the grocery list.

Hi, we are working out issues with our login system, as we intergrate it with the new site. Sorry for the issues, I have reported your problem.

Thanks for the replies. It's definitely taking some getting used to and so far isn't very user-friendly. Thought maybe it was my browser at first, but it seems to be doing it with any browser, especially Firefox. Now when I click on a recipe, it won't show the whole thing. Yesterday I was able to just refresh the page and the entire recipe would show. It won't let me do that anymore. I literally have to back up to the previous page and click on the recipe again.

Also, again, it would be nice if the site would recognize me (like it used to) so I don't have to keep logging back in all day long.

Thanks again.

Still lots of weirdness going on. The site still isn't saving my password information (doesn't recognize me when I come back to it) and when I do a search for recipes - for example, beef - it doesn't load all of the pages of the beef recipes. Only half (or maybe 1/4) of them, plus it still only loads about half of a recipe when I click on one to view the ingredients and instructions. And reloading the page doesn't always work.

The new style of this site would be nice if it worked half the time.

11/13/2007 9:04 PM

More weirdness - now it's adding back into my recipe box recipes that's I'm trying to delete. I've tried deleting a specific recipe now and it keeps throwing it right back in there. Confused

Listen, I hate to sound like a whiner, but I'm reporting these things so you'll know what's going on.

Thank you for letting us know. I have passed on your comments to our web site team. We appreciate it!

Thank you, it would be appreciated because I still can't get rid of that blasted recipe. Every time I delete it and every time I come back, there it is again. The site still doesn't recognize me and I have to constantly re-log back in.

11/28/2007 3:58 PM

I logged in with a temporary password that you sent me, but I don't see anywhere in My Account to change it?  Am I missing something???

12/4/2007 1:05 PM

Try going to "your account" and see if there's an option in there. I personally don't recall how to do that.

However, honestly, if it weren't for the many recipes I have stored, I'd probably stop using this site. I still have to log in every single time I venture away from the site and then come back, that Sweet and Sour Pork recipe, no matter how many times I've tried getting rid of it, still shows up in my recipe box every time I log back in, and more than 50% of the time when I click on a recipe to view it, it shows the first 2-3 ingredients and then the rest of the entire recipe is cut off, it will not show the entire recipe. Sometimes refreshing the page helps, sometimes not.

I don't know who did it or how this site was re-designed, but it's driving me batty. I'm ready to copy and paste all of my saved recipes into their own folder and then close my account. What stops me from doing so are the pictures. I'm a very 'visual' person and I need to see a picture of a recipe before I will even consider making it. I need to figure out a way to save the pics along with each recipe. That would work wonders for me because I'm very frustrated with this site right now.

Welcome, Brenda!  Are you having trouble finding how to do it or is it a problem with it not working?

1/13/2009 9:51 AM

I never had a problem with your newletters until the last few months. I cannot open any of the links in any of your newsletters and any other e-mails I get from BettyCrocker anymore. I receive your newsletters in my e-mail, but none of the links work. I get "page not found " whenever I click on any of the links. They all start out with http://links.emails.generalmills.com/xxx. I have tried everything. If anyone could tell me how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I can't believe I am the only one having this problem. If I go directly to your site I don't have a problem looking at anything except if I "View the Current Newletter" it still doesn't work.

Thanks,

Mkuehn

I've had the exact same problem as you are for months. I can't open any of the links. I've emailed General Mills and received a reply thanking me for my inquiry and said they will look into to it. So far nothing has changed. I can't even respond to the calendar promotion. Anyone else still having this problem? Anyone got any suggestions cause I've tried everything.

Thanks VJR

Mkuehn and Valorie, try deleting your cookies then rebooting. Sometimes files get corrupted and that will prevent web pages from loading correctly.

Click on Tools then choose Internet Options. On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, choose Delete Cookies.

You should also delete Files, on and off line. Then under History, choose Clear History.

Nothing "important" will be deleted by doing this...just temp files that bog your computer down and make it run slow.

Reboot and you should be able to load those pages...and your computer should run faster, too. I delete mine at least once a week.

Hey there AC! Awhile back I saw your suggestion about deleting cookies, to enable me to be allowed to sign in to the site.  (I was having problems, too)  But I must've missed your suggestion of doing these tasks every week to help my PC run faster and more efficient.  Thanks again.  I'm sure inevitably I would've run into the same problem again.  I'm also sure that you just saved me a whole lot of irritation!  You're the best!Left HugRight Hug

Alot can be said by AC's post. I will post this additional information  to help those who are having problems. This information is fact. This will help resolve problems not only here but elsewhere you browse on the net.

First off there are so many settings on a computer I can't post it all in a single thread. What I will post is the important facts you need to understand and do if you want to have a trouble free system.

What you should understand is computers have a memory and if bad things are loaded or are in a prefetch file when the computer starts they must be destroyed to make way for new data. Simply put deleating the correct (bad)files and folders will reset the memory to factory specs.

The first step is to set your folder view options. You must see these files (that are hidden) to destroy them. If you do not set this option to view them you can't deleate them. Here's how.

Click on (start) locate (control panel) locate (folder options) and open it. Click on the (view tab).

Click on the button that says(show hidden files and folders). This will allow you to view files and folders that you never seen before. Also check off the box that says (hide extensions for known file types).Click on apply then OK. Done so far.

Next click on start and locate (Explorer)..This is not internet explorer. If you can't find explorer do this: Click on start then click on the run icon and type into the run box   explorer    .

This will start explorer and now you will have access to all those files you should remove. Next click on (local disk C). This is your hard drive with all your data that windows remembers when it starts.

Next find and locate (documents and settings). Open it up and look for YOUR (user name ) your logged on. Example..John Mary Mike Sue Bill ect.

Open up your (user name) and locate ( local settings).

Deleate your (history)..(temp)..(temporary internet files)..(recient).

Some of these in your (temp) may not be deleatable yet until you restart your computer. If you encounter some un-deleatable files restrart and remove. ALSO in the windows folder locate a folder called (prefetch) and deleate all of those.

Empty your recycle bin and restart your computer. Also make sure you clean the internet explorer cookies like AC said and deleate the history and the files.

Your in business for awhile. Practice this and maybe I will show you msconfig and regedit.

Merry Christmas to all.

IF I CAN'T DO IT--IT CAN'T BE DONE!

Hi flourman!  Thank you so much for this info.  It seems these days that everyone thinks that everyone knows and understands every inch of their computer and knows and understands all computer 'lingo'.  Not true!  If you're like me you've been 'catching up' and feel like you'll be catching up forever.  Therefore when someone explains to you how to do a task on your computer, it doesn't take you 1 to 3 seconds to understand what you're doing and why, and to perform the task.  Thankfully, you and AC seem to understand that not all of us are "computer literate" or even a little fast when it comes to going into our computers and doing something like deleting our files.  Thank you for spelling it out in english, step by step, without making me feel like an idiot!  Also, you're entry is probably the easiest to not only undrstand and do, but remember as well!  So, in short, this "computer dummy" thanks you from the bottom of her heart, for such a comprehensive explanation and directions on how to effectively dump unwanted files.Yes
