What’s the most unique food you’ve ever grilled?

Nothing beats grilling in the spring and summer; it adds that wonderful smoky flavor that you can’t get from a stovetop or an oven.

However, I get a little bored with the same old meat, veggies, and potatoes on the grill so I’ve been doing some searching for unique grilling ideas.  Here’s what I’ve found so far …

Grilled Picnic Taco Nachos

What’s the most unique food you’ve ever grilled?  How did it turn out?  Please share your stories and recipes below!

I also found these helpful grilling tips:
http://www.bettycrocker.com/tips/tipslibrary/cooking-tips/grilling-tips

They include the following tips to ensure your grilled meal is safe to eat …
-    Trim visible fat from meats to avoid flare-ups.
-    Always marinate foods in the refrigerator, not on the counter.
-    Always serve grilled meat on a clean plate. Never serve cooked meat from the same unwashed plate you used to carry raw meat to the grill.
-    If you want to reuse a marinade (that has had raw meat in it) as a sauce, heat the marinade to boiling, then boil 1 minute before serving.
-    Perishable food should be eaten within 2 hours; 1 hour if the temperature is 90ºF or above.

I hope this helps and inspires.

Sincerely, Cate

One of my favorite new things to grill is anise.  I love it.  Take the bulb and chop it in thin slices, about 1/2" thick then I use olive oil cooking spray, salt, & pepper.  It has a very light flavor that pairs well with chicken and pork.  I have not tried it with steak or fish yet.  I don't know exactly how long to cook it either, probably 10 minutes on the grill.

Spam. It was between paydays and with 2 small children to feed and nothing else in the house but a few pieces of bread, it was the best I could do. It was good, though. LOL

A sweet Potato pie. It was after Hurricane Isabel and day three with no power. Had just finished grilling  linch and the pie was use or toss, so we put it on the grill, closed the lid and let it cook. What a great tasting pie, smoky and good.!

The most unique thing I ever grilled was beef liver! I love it with a light coating of hickory smoked bbq sauce. My boys loved it too. Kiwired

Pizza. Not pizza from scratch, just a thawed supermarket pizza. It gives it a great grilled, smoky, crispy taste.

Of course I only grilled the bottom, don't flip it over. Big Smile

I've also grilled a whole turkey on my Weber kettle charcoal grill. Use indirect heat (coals pushed to each side of the grill). Place a 9 x 14 inch aluminum drip pan with water below the turkey. With the bbq lid in place, it acts like an oven. I also added some soaked hickory wood chips to the charcoal to smoke the turkey. Adjust the vents to about 3/4 closed and cook the turkey until a thermometer reads 170 in the breast and 180 in the thigh. Best turkey we ever had. The turkey can't be larger than about 14 pounds or the kettle lid won't close. Try it some time, but don't experiment on Thanksgiving. Surprise

Romaine hearts. Saw it in a Sunday paper and gave it a try.  Have to admitt I only tried it because it sounded so weird to grill lettuce, it was acutually really good.

It's funny that I came across this thread. I just found in a blog yesterday that these people baked a cake on their campfire using hollowed out oranged wrapped in aluminum foil. It could obviously be done on the grill also. It's worth checking out. Here's their link: http://www.todaysletters.com/2010/10/campfire-orange-cakes.html

I eat, therefore I am.
