Last summer my hubby and I grew a bunch of fresh herbs. Basil, Mint, Cilantro- the works!
One night the hubby started making lunches for the both of us. I was in the other room when he asked
“Honey, did you want fresh Basil on your cheese, tomato, and mustard sandwich?”
I agreed and he finished packing.
The next afternoon I took the sandwich made out of love and had a big bite. My taste buds were instantly confused.
The hubby accidently picked the mint and not the basil.
Hehe. He asked if we could label the herbs this year.

my hubby had a similar mishap with fresh herbs in the kitchen.   As I was running out the door, I suggested that he put some basil from our porch pot into the spaghetti sauce he was heating up.  He is very new to the world of herbs, so instead of snipping and chopping up some basil leaves he instead took the grass growing in another pot from my son's school project for the spaghetti.  It was still pretty good!

A couple weeks ago my hubby and I went out to dinner with friends. We came back to our place for a movie and dessert. I decided to make a batch of Betty Crocker brownies while we watched a movie.

I was distracted talking to my guests while I was mixing. 3 eggs, oil...  check.

1/2 way though the cooking time I jumped up. I forgot to put in the 1/4 cup of water! Oh, no! I feared that I was going to serve my guests a chocolate brick. Embarrassed

It came out fine though... tasted more like a chocolate cake. My guests were kind enough to gobble it down... I think that extra egg saved me.

Oh, always an adventure in the kitchen!

Sincerely, CC

Just a little advise on baking ladies, any time a baking recipe asks for oil replace it with apple sauce, yes the same amount,  this will add the moisture the recipe needs but will also be better for you.  You will not taste the difference and even in a cake they come out fluffier and so moist.  I have been doing this for years and have always gotten raves about how moist they are.

Thanks for the tip, is it the same for bread?

While replacing oil with applesauce is a fine suggestion for some, it is not appropriate for all people. Type 2 diabetics, in particular, are better off consuming the oil. Applesauce is simply too high in carbs - compared to the zero carbs of oil - for that little trick to be good for diabetics. Maintaining a good blood sugar level is wholly a function of carb intake. The high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet so often recommended for diabetics (see the ADA diet) is a quick and sure path to all the complications of diabetes.

This is a story from my childhood and my grandmother's kitchen.  Grandma had a Hoosier cabinet where she kept all her spices and seasonings, amidst other things.  She made everything from scratch.  She used to make homemade egg noodles and let them dry on a floured towel on a counter in her pantry.  Anyway, my family was at Grandma's for Sunday dinner.  We had pumpkin pie for dessert.  My sister, who was 7 at the time, was working on her slice and found it a little more "chewy" than a pumpkin pie should be.  Eventually, she started working something out of her mouth, and discovered that my grandma had accidently knocked a large rubber band out of the Hoosier cabinet and into the mixing bowl where she was stirring the pie ingredients.

It was the topic of discussion for many events as we gathered at Grandma's table.

A while back when my nephew was in elementary school, my sister taught him to make cinnamon toast.  He was quite good at it and made it for himself almost every day.  One day my sister came home from work to find two pieces of cinnamon toast on a plate, untouched, except for one bite missing from one piece.  When my nephew got home from school, my sister asked him why he didn't eat his cinnamon toast.  He told her it tasted funny.  My sister took a look around the kitchen and noticed that the cinnamon was still in the cabinet, but the paprika was on the counter.  So my nephew learned that paprika toast is not very good.

Hi CateC!  This section is just SO funny!!! I can't wait to read some others.  This best mishap I will never be able to live down happened in my Mom's kitchen.  I was grown (around 30) and stopped off to chat with Mom on the way home one evening.  The kitchen had a wonderful aroma like garlic, onions, and spices such as Italian food.  I immediately went to the frig and found a pot inside that was still a little warm.  I raised the lid and found the source of the wonderful aroma.  Of course I took a bite.   I immediately began spitting out the stuff in my mouth and going OH YUCK !!  HOW AWFUL !!  My Mom, Dad and brother who just happened to have stopped by also, came a running.  Then started laughing like crazy.  I had sampled the dog food my mom had cooked for their german shepard with the Purina Dog chow mixed in!!  love to all

I placed a Tupperware plastic bowl of pancake batter on one electric burner and turned on the burner under the skillet. Or so I thought. The bottom of the bowl started smoking. I snatched it away. The bottom of the bowl stuck on the burner, the rest of the bowl came away and pancake batter went everywhere. What a mess.

Those who forget the pasta are condemned to reheat it.

@antilope, Oh, no! Heh, new rule... no plastic on the oven Stick out tongue

I burned plastic in the micro before...That's tough smell to get out of the kitchen! Thank you for sharing!

I did the same thing with all the kids in the kitchen and the girls "helping" I didnt pay attention and placed the MILK carton on the other burner that I believed to be OFF. It wasnt and mild went everywhere. My husband asked if I was showing the kids what NOT to do...ha...very funny I said. Yes, what a mess.
