Smothered Porkchops

Hello again everyone!  I was checking out a dish for smothered porkchops to cook tonight and one of the ingredients is half and half which I don't have. Will it really make a difference if I use 2% milk? I trying to have dinner prepared for my hubby and make my porkchops a little differentBig Smile    Also, I haven't had a chance to read my replies and will get to them a.s.a.p. I truly appreciate all the responses!!!!

Hi wifey3, I'm sure I'm not as good a cook as you, but I would be concerned that milk is not as thick as half and half. I'm guessing this is to make a gravy or sauce ?  That would be my only concern.  If you know how to thicken the milk a little without affecting the taste, why not?  Sorry I can't give you a better answer, in fact, it's probably the equivalent of no answer.  I'm also sure that just about any other member would be able to give you a more definitive reply.  I hope I helped a little, good luck with your dinner.

P.S- My husband who is a much better cook than I, suggested you add a little cornstarch.  I would make a "slurry" with a portion of the milk in the recipe, then add the slurry to your milk and finish your recipe.  You may also have to spice accordingly.

Shirley, yes, you can substitute milk for the half and half.  But, I agree with CS; you'll probably have to thicken the milk.  After the milk heats, if does not thicken enough, just mix a little more flour with a little water then stir that into the hot milk.  Continue to stir until mixture thickens.
