For the Moderators

When requests for a recipe are given by one of the members on the Message Boards and they are flagged for Moderation, when are they reviwed and released (or responded to)?  I just tried to post a recipe to a request for Sesame Chicken.  And I received a message that it is to be reviewed by one of the moderators.  This has happened in the past (and not just to me), but I never see where the recipe(s) are reviewed or released for posting.  Please give us an explanation as to how long it takes for a moderator to review and post or not post a recipe.  And if it isn't going to be posted, please let the person trying to submit the recipe know.  I don't want the person requesting the recipe thinking that their request is being ignored.  Thank you very much! I could not have said it better myself.
Also if we could know why it was flagged for moderation.  That might be helpful.

Please answer the above for all of us -so that we will know if and when the posts are reviewed and also know what triggers a review by a moderator.  Once a recipe is flagged, we never see them posted.

Is someone (a Moderator) actually reviewing the posts flagged for moderation, or are they just obliterated if they include a word set up to trigger a review????  We have no confirmation that any of the replies to posts are actually reviewed and/or released for post.

 Thanks again!

The posts that are sent to moderation are looked through by a member of our team once a week. Sometimes, there is really no good reason a post gets flagged, the computer just catches something. However, rest assured that the comments are not just deleted, they are read. They are all approved now and should be viewable. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you Jessica for the reply.  It is a shame that we can't figure out what triggers the flagging.   I doubt that there are very many responses that are eliminated for improper language or other reasons.

Well, I hope we all laugh at the irony.  I wrote a note thanking Jessica for her answer and it was flagged!

That's priceless!!!!!! Hmm

I really wish that I understood the reasoning for the moderation. I appreciate all your patience as we sort it out! Smile

Hi Jessica!  A couple of days ago I posted a recipe for (and I'll change the wording)  Round Lemon Cookies.  I don't see it anywhere, although it did pop up right after I piosted it.  Did I get flagged?  I think I know why, but if that's the title of the recipe then what's wrong with it?  I don't mean any disrespect but, I don't feel I should have to change the title of a recipe that's probably been around as long as Betty Crocker has.  You know what I mean?  I do appreciate that someone oversees this site to make sure this site remains as great as it is,  but there is such a thing as being a little ridiculous.  I also understand that a computer does the flagging.  Is there no way to update the computers sensitivity to certain words?  I'm sure you spend a lot of time  answering questions about 'flagging', but I just couldn't help it.  It is a little annoying!  Thanks for listening, and if you could find the time to reply i'd sure appreciate it!  Take care!

I know I've only been a member for not even a week, but with all the posting I've done I'm surprised I haven't been "flagged"!  I don't mean to be an idiot but you are all such nice people, so why would any of you be flagged?  Seems to me that it would have to be preety difficult too be flagged.  I mean, no one swears, nobody outrightly puts down BC, I've never seen anyone be treated with anything but kindness and respect by other members.  So why would anyone be flagged?  Maybe I'm being dense or something but, I just don't understand!Confused

CS, there is probably a computer filtering program that looks for certain words in posts and if it finds one of those words it will automatically flag the post until a moderator can check it.  (Sort of like George Carlin's 7 words you can't say on TV. LOL)

I tried to post a soup recipe just a couple of days ago and it was flagged.  The computer program apparently didn't like or was unsure of the title of the recipe, which was the Greek name for the soup.

I immediately made another post, changing the title to Lemon Soup and it posted immediately.  By the way, the title was not vulgar, just a weird word. LOL

I, for one, am very glad this site is moderated.  I have been to recipe boards that were not and there was too much filth by a few that ruined it for so many others.

Moderators,
When a post has been flagged and reviewed, if it is determined that it can not be posted is the person who posted the item notified and told why it is rejected?  Or are we left wondering as to what was wrong with the post.

8/13/2008 9:11 AM

Thanks AC for explaining that to me, makes alot of sense.  This is the only recipe site I've ever been on, so I wasn't aware of that.  By the way, I think you posted that "Lemon Soup" recipe for me.  I asked if anyone knew it to post it, so thank you!  I did post a thanks on your reply, but maybe you haven't seen it yet.  In fact, thanks for all of the help you've given me.  You've made me feel comfortable here!  It's too bad I'll never know the greek name to that Lemon Soup" recipe,Crying oh well!

You are very welcome, CS!  I would tell you what the real name of the soup is, but this post would have to go sit on the naughty bench. LOL
