Baking in a round pan

How many cake mixes can you use to bake in a 12" x 3" round pan?

The internal volume of a round 9 x 2 inch standard cake pan is 127 cubic inches.

The internal volume of a round 12 x 3 cake pan is 339 cubic inches.

The 12 x 3 inch cake pan is 2.7 times larger than the 9 x 2 cake pan.

It could hold 2-1/2 standard boxes of cake mixes safely.

Thank You! That helps me out alot and thanks for responding so quick. I think I'll mix 3 and save some batter for some cupcakes. I need to make a cake for a potluck tomorrow.

In that larger, deeper pan, the cooking time is going to change from the smaller pan, but I don't know by how much.

I just realized that an 18.25-oz box of cake mix makes two 9-inch cake layers. So you should use 1-1/2 boxes of cake mix for the 12 x 3 pan, not 2-1/2 boxes.

Fill the 12 x 3 pan 2/3 full of cake batter.
