Orzo is simply pasta shaped like rice. You should be able to easily find it in the dry pasta section in your supermarket.

Hi tal26, if we knew what the recipe was, that would help. Since it looks like rice, could you use a small grain or instant rice. granna2

Hi Orzo is a tiny pasta that looks likes rice.  I'd replace it with a  small macaroni.

As others have informed you, ORZO is a small rice-shaped pasta, so any TINY pasta will do.
From a taste perspective, any pasta could substitute...but since you haven't described the recipe, I'm not certain if the delicate and symmetry is needed for the appearance of the dish.
Elbow macaroni, which is much larger, will not look as polished...
Stelline would be a good sub, but I'm guessing if you didn't have Orzo you won't have Stelline either.
If cooking for kids and your pantry has alphabet pasta, that could be fun.
I would not substitute rice, because it will absorb more liquid and could dry out the dish you are making...or the breakdown of the starches in the rice could "muddy" the dish.

Life is short: love with abandon, laugh often, live with passion, count your blessings with conviction and thank God!
